Philosophy
Being able to create something that can't necessarily be explained with words, but can convey emotions is truly unique and rewarding. Growing up, formation of clouds in the sky, and the folds in fabric captured my attention relatively easily and felt fascinated by their simple, yet natural forms. Such simple curiosity is what started my interest for Art. Studying and experimenting different Medias greatly influenced my work and way of thinking, but none were as great as the introduction to digital format. Now being able to create something from a digital format started my great passion for art.
When working on a piece, I'm always fond of approaching it in a very simple form. My work in many ways explores the relationship between minimalism and solitude. Thus, incorporating a number of styles has influenced my work as well, such as abstract, and surrealism. People have asked for a statement or description of my work, but felt unnecessary to explain a certain piece of work. If a piece was created with the artist's attention, hopefully it can speak for itself. And, however it interprets to the viewer; it's the right message because there isn't a wrong or right message. If each viewer takes something a little different from the same artwork, then I am quite happy with that.
Place
"How did you come up with the name 'themptyrm'?"
Growing up in my parents house, we've had this 4th room that was kept empty and used it as an extra storage space. And so, we've always called it "The Empty Room." My family also kept the family computer in there as well. And that's where I actually started learning digital design programs, like Photoshop. I believe a lot of my time, experience, and learning took place in that room.
Why
"What made you decide to create this web site?"
At first I wanted to create a site that is less restricted and subjective, compare to my portfolio site. Sort of like a collage of all the things that interest me. However, the type of layout I've chose made it pretty difficult to update new content and didn't really have sense of direction.
I really like this layout much more. Now, I am struggling the purpose and need of having both "P.O.Mind" and this site. I was considering closing "P.O.Mind" and make this site my main portfolio site. But at the same time, I'm still very attached to other site (about 10 years) with it.
Perhaps someday, I will figure it out. Someday...
Finally figured it out
So after about 10 years after creating “themptyrm” I’ve decided to finally join the two sites. It’s really so much easier to manage now. I’ve also adopted to move away from designing my own web coding and rely on a service now. Yes of course there is a “premium” to pay, but at this point I feel it is quite worth it (basically I am getting o̶l̶d̶ lazy).
“So, what have you been up to?”
Well, life itself can be quite interesting. I’ve completely changed my career path and currently in the IT field (Network & Security), and its been….different. It’s a very logical / rational way of thinking in this field, but I do enjoy it (most of the time…). But I do reflect back on my art experience and I do greatly appreciate I have studied art this far. I didn’t realize how much I rely on my “right-side” of the brain even after changing career. It comes into play for many different daily routines. I guess life reminds me every once in awhile how passionate I still am with art.
